Renergen will host South Africa’s first ever LNG auction.
The LNG and helium producer is inviting interested parties to apply to bid for the allocation of LNG, which will be produced at its Virginia Gas Project, located in the Free State.
Renergen said it is currently the first and only provider of LNG in South Africa and will have completed Phase 1 of the Virginia Gas Project by 2021.
This means the company will be producing LNG and helium, making Renergen the first distributor of LNG at filling stations between Johannesburg and Durban on the N3 highway, in partnership with Total, in the country.
Renergen anticipates that Phase 2 of the project will be available by 2023.
“We are expecting the demand for LNG to increase significantly across South Africa, and Phase 2 production will bolster our 2021 Phase 1 supply, making LNG available across all the country’s major highways. A surplus volume from Phase 2 will be made available to the market,” Renergen said in a statement.
