Why are we holding this auction?

Renergen is currently the first and only provider of LNG in SA, providing a secure independent energy supply, and most importantly for the country, not imported. By 2021, we will have completed our Phase 1 expansion plans of the Virginia Gas Project and will be producing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and helium, making us the first distributor of LNG at filling stations between Johannesburg and Durban on the N3 highway (in partnership with Total) in the country, and the only domestic producer of helium.

Renergen also anticipates that Phase 2 of the Virginia Gas Project will be available by 2023. We are expecting the demand for LNG to increase significantly across South Africa, and Phase 2 production will bolster our 2021 Phase 1 supply, making LNG available across all the country’s major highways. A surplus volume from Phase 2 will be made available to the market. Interested parties are invited to apply to bid for the allocation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in South Africa’s first ever LNG auction, conducted by Renergen.
